Little petite fours, meringue cookies with fruit, chocolate croissants. Scones are served with lemon curd and whip cream and the desserts are devine. The kids get fresh fruit instead of soup and they get peanut butter and jelly instead of the traditional cucumber sandwiches and egg salad. Then you get a three tiered tray of finger foods. They had a basil tomato and a chicken with wild rice. The creme brulee is very true to its name and the pear one is very good as well. It's fantastic! The kids really liked the vanilla cream, even after they tried almost everything on the menu. My recommendation is to start with their house tea which is a chocolate orange blend. It's unlimited tea but you can only do two at a time. They have about 25 flavors to choose from. I highly recommend! They start you with your choice of any two teas off their menu. We've done the high tea service here twice. It was not worth the $70+ (with tip) tab.

As we walked out, I noticed the relatively empty larger dining room and the veranda full of empty tables with maybe 2 tables seated! In conclusion, our special occasion was marred by the dismal food and service. When we left, the two tables were still empty. This was when we were paying and getting ready to leave an hour later. A lady came over and explained to us, loudly in front of the other customers the same reason that had been given when we first asked and said that she hadn't wanted us to be," asked to move because tea-service usually took an hour to an hour and a half". When I paid the bill, I pointed out to the server that the two tables were still empty and to pass our comments to management. The tea was very weak even after 10 minutes of steeping.

The portions were minute and nothing impressive. It was a tight squeeze on the table, with a 3-tired stand, food-saucers, tea cups & saucers, teapot, etc. I asked if we could switch and was told that they had, "full reservations," so it was not possible. We were seated at a table for 2 and there were two other empty-4-people tables. My mom's order was delicious! We decided that we would return for the tea-service to celebrate a very special occasion to us. My order was okay but the fries definitely overdone. I had the club-sandwich and substituted fries instead of the kettle-chips. My mom is visiting us for the summer, so I took her there for lunch first. So I was excited when I first saw the Mad Hatter Tea Room in Anoka. I grew up with afternoon tea as a daily tradition at home and have enjoyed high-tea in 5 class hotels in the UK etc.
